Kindle, a Good Idea

“What is that? Are you sending SMS’s to your friends?” the waiter asked me as he pointed to my Kindle.

“No, it’s a Kindle. For reading.”

“For reading? Those are the books you wrote? On that?”

“No (though secretly wishing the answer was yes). It’s like an electronic library. I download the books when I’m at home, then I can read them when I travel.”

“This, I think this is a good idea. I like this Kindle.”

But then the Kindle et al. is the death of tangible reading.

Maybe. I’ve noticed I read a lot more with my Kindle, because it’s always in my purse. Kindle is for reading on the go; books are for reading at home.

I miss being able to see what strangers are reading on the train.

    Hahaha great post Lori!

When I took out my kindle in Korea, my parents asked me, “What is that?”

“It’s a device for reading, I can transfer a lot of books into it.”

    “Ohh.. that is cool!”

I felt like I came from the future 🙂

That’s awesome! Where do your parents live in Korea? I lived in Daegu for almost a year in 2001 – 2002. Living in Korea was the impetus for this blog. 🙂

They live in An-san, it’s about 2 hours south of Seoul. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ansan. Wow! how was it like in Daegu and Korea? That sounds great! Do you have posts about your experience living in Korea?

I enjoyed living in Daegu; it’s a city surrounded by beautiful mountains. That was when I started this blog – go back to the archives of late 2001and 2002 and you’ll see some fun stories. 🙂 I took advantage of living there and traveled throughout Korea – to Seoul, Pusan, the tea plantations in the southwest, Jeju-do. I don’t think all of the pictures came through, but the stories are entertaining.
